Marching into March
In many locations globally we take note of the anniversary of lockdown measures put in place to curb the spread of Covid 19.
A year later and what has changed?
In terms of infection rates, albeit for a few countries not that much as we see spikes of infection even though Vaccines are now being administered. However, it’s not all doom and gloom.
Time for celebration.
We have witnessed a surge in adaptability and flexibility where business is concerned. Any job that can be done remotely is now being done remotely. The work from home initiative has taken the planet by storm enabling millions of people worldwide to keep the economy going. Of course, it did take some time and even industry sectors which need people to physically interact with their businesses such as hospitality and entertainment are finding new innovative ways to generate revenue.
This has been achieved by looking directly at the movement restrictions we were faced with and embracing existing technology and pioneering new platforms to not only manage but grow businesses. The internet has been a constant that has enabled people all over the world to build new empires and success stories from the comfort of their own homes. I say comfort loosely as all our living situations are different however my main point is that we should look to praise the versatility and adaptability of businesses, organizations and individuals who have not only survived but thrived in the midst of a global pandemic.
I often think that we focus negatively on that which seeks to add barriers to our goals and dreams instead of finding the opportunities within them. The approach we take to situations will have a huge effect on the outcome, and there will always be situations that require spur of the moment action. When it comes to business, we have the ability to look at the world around us and work challenging situations into beneficial ones.
I’ve said before that global disasters or events that have a huge global impact often drive policy change. These policy changes can be the kick start needed to change the way we do business for the better. Improve safety, improve product/service delivery, improved value proposition, increase productivity and so on.
What we have witnessed over the past 12 months should act as a reminder that the world around us can change in the blink of an eye and we need to ensure our businesses are set up to be as flexible as possible to cope.
Final thought.
Ending on a positive note, new technologies are enabling us find growth and flexibility, and the future is in our hands.
